The inscription on the back of the original photo reads: "Alex Stachau' [or some such spelling, the script is difficult to read] C. R/ 66462,848 Doheny Street." This probably refers to Doheny Street in Los Angeles, perhaps somebody from the corporate headquarters of the Pacific Coast borax company in Los Angeles.

The house, currently (1990) occupied by Betty-Jo Boyd and her husband, was moved to the site by the Bettles from Death Valley Junction, California. The site was bare land when the Bettles moved onto it. As this picture testifies, Billie Bettle's reputation as a skilled gardener if fully justified.
